Feldenkrais Foundation

Feldenkrais Foundation and it's lessons are the chance to engage deeply with the basic ideas and concepts of the Feldenkrais Method.

You will immerse yourself in Awareness Through Movement lessons– giving you a much clearer appreciation of your own capacity to move with ease and elegance.
Through following the movements with awareness you will also gain a greater understanding of the range of human movement.

You will discover useful ways of expanding your range of comfort, learn skills to take back into your life and gain insights to what is possible when you start from the premise that everyone can explore their potential.

About these lessons

In Awareness Through Movement® you learn how to move with minimum effort and maximum ease, not through muscular strength, but through increased awareness of how the body works. Lying on the floor you are directed through a series of gentle, non-invasive movements that grow increasingly complex.

At the same time you are asked to pay attention to specific sensory feedback. The practitioner guides and instructs you on how to adjust the direction, speed, timing, and force of each movement as the lesson continues.

What it is and what it is not

Feldenkrais is not about limits. We are not interested in the limit of our range of motion or in stretching, pushing, forcing, or even listening to the teacher!

The Feldenkrais method is about how we know ourselves. Right now, at this moment, you may know that you are tense in your right hip, or you may be aware that your neck hurts. Your arm may be sore from the gym, or your heart might be racing because you are angry with your colleague or spouse.

These sensations are giving feedback to your nervous system, and they represent how you know yourself in this moment. Your interpretation of this feedback determines how you are going to respond to the next experience life throws at you. But you don’t decide what to do in a vacuum. At every moment, along with your current sensation, you are also experiencing your long-standing, habitual way of organizing your movement, your feelings, and your life.

Find out about your long-standing habits of movement, feeling, and responding by activating a different, non-habitual way relating with your experience and sensations. By relating to your experience with awareness, you will become capable of knowing, sensing, and feeling more and more subtle forms of feedback from your nervous system, which will diminish your usual reactions and habits—habits of muscular contraction, strain, fatigue, or emotional stress.

Coaching sessions

Part of this curriculum are two movement coaching sessions. One when you start the program and one when you almost complete the course.

The coaching sessions are included in the program. It gives us time to get to know each other, your abilities, goals and aspirations and to tailor the program to your needs. It gives me time to explain the program and high light what to look for when doing the lessons.

There is a follow up coaching session closer to the end of your program.

In the curriculum is a booking link to my scheduling program and you can book a session with me at a convenient time for you.

Hi, I’m Annemarie de Heus

Physiotherapist - Feldenkrais Practitioner - Wheelchair Seating Coach

I help pain and injury ‘sufferers’ to move and feel better, and to live their lives to their full potential.

Therefore pain and injuries can no longer impact every aspect of your life; how you walk, how you communicate, swim, recover from illness and injury, how you brainstorm, make decisions, deal with deadlines, conflict, and other stressful situations.

I offer a journey where you can learn through movement and develop yourself in ways that allow you to do more of what you truly love with more grace, ease, comfort and fun! In this way you are not bound by your physical ailment, not limited by your constraints in thinking or limited by self-doubt and negative self-talk.

I guide you to find your own path to well-being through self-awareness, paying attention to how you sense and move so that you can reach your full potential.
